Inclusive School Practices

Inclusive School Practices

Students with a physical or mental disability have the right to experience school as much as an individual who does not have a disability. Every student in Manitoba should be able to participate, learn, interact and feel a sense of belonging in their educational environment.

Parents and school educators need to work together to:

  • Build a classroom where every child feels a sense of personal belonging;
  • Encourage the practice of students learning and being taught together, regardless of learning needs;
  • Encourage members of the school (students, teachers, parents) to understand the different types of learners in the school environment.

The interpretation of an inclusive environment will vary depending on the child and family, the school and school division. It is important to work with the school and school division to determine the types of supports your child will need in the educational system. This will help you choose the right school program for your child.
